Florida Keys Wreck Fishing Charters

Deep sea fishing isn’t only about hunting for pelagic species offshore. Wreck fishing is a fantastic way to get on some VERY BIG fish! In the sand beds out past the reef lie bridge rubble, sunken shipwrecks, fishing boats, and even airplanes. These artificial reefs attract large predators and provide a home for bottom-dwellers. Wreck fishing involves dropping baits on or near the Wreck and trying to hook a monster fish!

What We Catch On The Wrecks

Below you will find some of the species we commonly catch bottom fishing on or near wrecks. Sometimes we also catch Kingfish, Wahoo, Sailfish, and a wide variety of Grouper and Sharks on the wrecks.

Amberjack Fishing Charter

GREATER AMBERJACK

Greater Amberjack are pound for pound one of the hardest fighting fish in the sea. If you want to catch one on the sunken wrecks of the Florida Keys you better bring some muscle! It is not unusual to hook one ranging from 60-80lbs on the wrecks and sometimes we catch ones over 100lbs! Amberjack is considered a decent fish for smoking and making fish dip but the very large ones sometimes have worms in the meat so we often catch, photo and release them.

Mutton Snapper

MUTTON SNAPPER

Mutton Snapper are a blast to catch. Once hooked they will make several high speed runs trying to escape. While Muttons found on the reef are typically small, the ones living around wrecks often weigh well over 20lbs! Mutton Snapper is one of the tastiest fish in the sea. Mutton Snapper has the same delicate mild flavor other types of Snapper are known for, but they also have firmer flakier white meat.

Black Grouper

BLACK GROUPER

Available for Harvest from May 1 – Dec 31, Black Grouper are famous for their delicious firm and flaky, white meat. While you can catch grouper on the Reef the ones we catch on the Wrecks are considerably larger weighing over 20lbs at times. Grouper are notorious for swimming back into the wreck once you hook them, so be prepared to wind very quickly once you get a bite.
